Midi/video playback

Mainstage has been my keyboard rig and click track player in 6 cover bands. 100 gigs, no crashes. 2 live USB keyboards with 2-8 wav backing tracks. I want to add sequenced lighting and video screen playback in sync with backing tracks, but no simple plug-in works. Apple has chosen to sell a cheap, limited-use app. This programme is great but lacks pro features. It has its uses, but I’ll be looking elsewhere because the latest update ignores user requests so they can port Logic Pro items into Mainstage and call it an update. If you want a toy to play with, get MainStage; otherwise, look elsewhere.

BUGS!

I like this programme for performances, but it’s buggy. I keep reverting to saved so the app’s sound can replace the distorted one. Bugs prevent anyone from using this on stage. It’s a great programme that I can use for 20 minutes before sound distortion and high resonance appear. This wouldn’t work on the Main stage. You’d think an Apple app would be more reliable and work after being open for a while. Who are the developers? iMac? Apple’s 3rd party? Guys, fix this in the future.

Excellent tool

For the price, you get ALL Logic Pro synths, effects racks, Logic Pro Remote, and endless customization. High schoolers use this. My jazz ensemble and high school bands feature it. Programming is quick. I can programme backing tracks for high school band pieces, set them up to be controlled by keyboard, and easily make jazz band patches when funky keyboards are needed. It’s easy to use. Last version had occasional crashes; those seem fixed. Perfect for modern composers’ needs. In the practise room, I run a drone and imitate concert hall acoustics to practise intonation and playing to the hall by LISTENING. It’s a must for me. No other app on any platform does what MainStage does. This price.

Version 3.4.3 eliminated multi-select.

Manstage used to let you change multiple objects’ properties in Layout view at once; in version 3.4.3, you must select each object individually. If you have 16 faders and want to change the text colour, you must select each one individually.
