Whatʹs New For Notability
Moving in the right direction, but…
While reading a PDF that was produced using iBooks Author, I came across this app.
I’ve used it for a few days and it is a really nice app, but I agree with what others have said (iCloud sync for one).
But why not create an iPad/iPhone version? Yes, it wouldn’t be as fully functional (although I don’t understand why… On the iPad, iPhone, and Mac, Pages and Numbers are available, but at the moment, when I’m not at my Mac, I write on iOS Notes, then I have to transfer what I wrote to iBooks Author on my Mac. Of course, having an iPad/iPhone app is useless if there is no iCloud sync (as other commenters have noted).
I sincerely hope Apple does more than just basic upgrades.
This app is excellent in every way.
It has so much potential. Apple, please don’t abandon us in this situation. Pay
attention to user feedback and keep making improvements to this app. I appreciate it.

Love/Hate
Excellent note-taking. My MacBook and iPad worked for a year until recently. About 50% of my notes won’t open with a spinning cloud that never downloads; I’ve tested it for hours. Apple support suggested reloading the app, but it didn’t work. My 750 30-subject notes were scrambled. Ginger Labs said to uninstall and reinstall the app, but it didn’t work. 2) My iCloud-synced iPad won’t download updated notes, and my Macbook won’t update them. When I open a highlighted and drawn-on Powerpoint PDF hours later, the background is blank/white/gone, rendering the note useless. Contact Ginger Lab! Finals week is coming up, so I need to fix my app before then.

Version 3 update: Handwriting is recognised. The problem I had was fixed and it seems good. I’ll soon find out if the text is converted and saved in the note for iPad search. The app could be improved. iPad should work. Mac can’t convert handwriting to text like iPad. Unexpected. Right-clicking would save program-taken photos as JPGs. You can copy, open in Preview, and save it. Poor repair. It’s iCloud and Dropbox-compatible (iPad version). Backup is limited to one device. Why? Maybe it considers backups syncs.

A good app that improves.
The app’s developer has added helpful features like an eraser. Features are practical and measured, not groundbreaking. App stability wasn’t sacrificed for features. I love the reliability because I hate losing data. I’ve never lost data or had the app crash or behave strangely. Notability is my paper-and-pencil replacement. I keep ideas in notes and hand-drawn diagrams while working. I love notability because I can easily delete old notes. Paper makes a mess. I use and rely on this app on mobile, tablet, and desktop. Notability is worth considering for similar needs. I don’t use handwriting recognition because my notes are digrams with text. Document searches benefit from data.

Ipad-friendly, mac-unfriendly
I sometimes need to change my handwritten iPad notes on my Mac. I don’t want to rewrite on my mac trackpad. Text insertion is difficult. Only handwriting and outlines are allowed. Text in a textbox can’t be moved. I wish computer editing was easier. It beats goodnotes. Good handwriting indexing and searching. My handwriting is indexed and searchable. This is the best note-taking app/platform, comparable to Microsoft Word or Apple Pages. Favorite. Improve computer support.
