Description Of The Unarchiver
The Unarchiver is a compact, user-friendly programme that can unarchive a variety of archive file types.
It supports opening popular file types like Zip, RAR (including version 5), 7-zip, Tar, Gzip, and Bzip2.
Numerous older formats, including StuffIt, DiskDoubler, LZH, ARJ, and ARC, are also compatible with it.
Even other types of files, like ISO and BIN disc images and some Windows.EXE installers, can be opened by it.
The list is actually much longer; to view the complete list, visit the programme homepage.
You can open files from anywhere in the world without worrying about filenames being garbled because The Unarchiver also makes an effort to recognise and appropriately handle the filename encoding in the archives it opens.
The Unarchiver wants to be the last unarchiving tool you’ll ever need and to get out of your way.
Additionally, you can go to https://theunarchiver.com/archives or search for “Archives” in the App Store if you need to open archives on your iPad or iPhone.
It is based on The Unarchiver and makes managing Archives on iOS simple!

Before 3.1.2, 5 stars, now 4
3.11 fixed 3.11.2’s problem.
3. Issues with 3.11.3. Before the last two versions, I could compress a directory from the finder menu and uncompress it with “The Unarchiver.” I get file encoding notifications randomly. So I use CMD. BTW, “The Unarchiver” crashes if you select more than 250 files in Finder. Unarchiver’s memory corrupts, menus stop working (Quit button disappears), and programme hangs. Force-quit externally. Xee 3.5.3 can’t read.cbr and.cbz (or.rar or.zip) files reliably. Some pages have noise, others don’t (like Comic Reader). Xee is now 3.5.2.

Unavoidable in non-English environments
Several utilities decompress files (zip, rar, etc.) This free utility excels at detecting and guessing file encoding. When I receive zip files with Korean or Japanese file names, Mac’s unarchiving utility makes them illegible. This programme can detect and guess (often correctly) file names. This app is the best I’ve ever used.

Preferences can’t deselect file formats
I’m setting The Unarchiver’s preferences. The Unarchiver won’t let me deselect a file format for default expansion. It prompts you to change the default app for certain file types. Small print describes how to assign default applications to file types. It’s annoying. Even if I don’t know how to assign default apps, I shouldn’t have to before deselecting a file type in The Unarchiver’s preferences. This behaviour makes me uninstall the app. Please fix this obnoxious behaviour. Unfair.

Mac App Store must-have
Every computer that supports it has it. It’s the easiest way to extract file archives. Mac 7zip. MacPaw has offered this programme (and updates) through the Mac App Store for years. The company rocks. Always buy their software. Other programmes are great.
